New Building Project

40 Years in the making!

For decades, the Friends of the Akwesasne Freedom School have been diligently fundraising not only to keep the school running and the teachers paid but also for a new building that would house all of the students in one location. The school is currently spread across three aging buildings that come with a host of issues each year. In 2021, with a pledge of $2M from the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, we finally were able to take that big leap forward! Click the link below for more information and to follow our progress!

FUNDRAISING

A sovereign school

The Friends of the Akwesasne Freedom School are the fundraising arm of the school. By being the buffer between the school and donors, the school is able to maintain a curriculum free from outside, non-native, input.

PARTNERSHIPS

It takes a village

The Friends of the Akwesasne Freedom School work alongside several programs within Akwesasne to ensure that the difficult work of revitalizing and sustaining our beautiful culture is carried forward for the next seven generations.
